Major Breakthrough in Chandan Mishra Murder Case: Multiple Arrests, Firearms, and Drugs Seized
Patna, August 9, 2025 – In a significant development in the high-profile Chandan Mishra murder case, Bihar Police’s Special Task Force (STF) along with district police teams from Patna, Kolkata, and Bhojpur have successfully apprehended several accused, including the prime suspects, and recovered narcotics during the investigation.

Patna, August 9, 2025 – In a significant development in the high-profile Chandan Mishra murder case, Bihar Police’s Special Task Force (STF) along with district police teams from Patna, Kolkata, and Bhojpur have successfully apprehended several accused, including the prime suspects, and recovered narcotics during the investigation.
The case dates back to the morning of July 17, 2025, when Chandan Mishra, who was undergoing treatment at Paras Hospital, Patna, was shot dead by unidentified assailants around 7:20 AM. Following the incident, two separate FIRs were registered at Shastri Nagar police station – Case No. 494/2025 under sections 103(1), 61(2) of the Indian Penal Code (Amendment) Act, 2023, and Case No. 495/2025 under sections 109(1), 61(2), 3(5) of the same Act.
Arrests and Operations Across States
During the course of the investigation, police identified five key accused involved in the murder. The prime accused, Tausif Raja alias Badshah, along with his associates Harsh, Bheem, and Nishu Khan, was arrested in a joint raid by Patna STF and Kolkata STF from Anandpur police station jurisdiction in Kolkata.
In another joint operation involving Bhojpur Police and the STF, the prime accused Balwant Singh, and co-accused Raviranjan Kumar Singh and Abhishek Kumar were confronted in an armed encounter. Both Balwant Singh and Raviranjan Kumar sustained gunshot wounds to their legs during the exchange of fire and are currently undergoing treatment at PMCH, Patna. All three were subsequently arrested.
Further Investigations Lead to More Arrests
Two more suspects – Vijaykant Pandey alias Rudra Pandey alias Dhannu, son of Ajay Shankar Pandey of Nagpura, Simri (Buxar district), and Rajesh Yadav, son of Munna Yadav of Khandra, Ward No. 1, Simri (Buxar district) – were brought to Patna for interrogation. Their names had surfaced in the confessions of previously arrested accused.
During interrogation, Vijaykant Pandey admitted his involvement in the crime and was placed under arrest. Rajesh Yadav also confessed, revealing that on July 12, 2025, he had come to Patna with Dhannu and Balwant to conduct reconnaissance at Paras Hospital in preparation for the murder, acting on instructions from Sheru Singh.
Narcotics Recovery
Rajesh Yadav further disclosed that after conducting the reconnaissance, they stayed at the residence of his friend Rohit Pandey in Anand Vihar Colony, where they hid 190 grams of heroin inside old books. Acting on his lead, police recovered the narcotics, leading to the registration of Rupaspur police station Case No. 499/2025 dated August 8, 2025 under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Ongoing Investigation
Police officials confirmed that further investigations are underway to trace all individuals linked to the conspiracy, identify the source of the weapons and drugs, and uncover the full motive behind the murder.
The arrests mark a major success for Bihar’s law enforcement agencies, as they continue to dismantle organized criminal networks operating across state borders.
